Pottery Classes
Welcome to Mud Slinger Studio!
There's a pottery class for everyone here... beginners and seasoned alike.
We offer a variety of classes and they all include:
- Hours of instruction, hands on learning & practice, practice, practice.
- All clay needed for class projects.
- Supervised use of all trimming & carving tools, pug mill, pottery wheel, bats, drying racks, glazing tools and kiln.
- All glazing materials needed to finish your class pieces.
- Bisque & glaze firings for pieces created & completed in class.
- Final glaze fired pieces will be available to pick up approximately 2 weeks after the last class session.
All students are encouraged to take the beginner classes multiple times so that you can build and refine your skills before moving on to more complex forms and techniques.
Current Classes
Our beginner wheel class focuses on centering clay, opening, pulling walls and shaping pieces. You will have plenty of practice time to get comfortable with the process. We will work on forming cups, bowls and trinket holders. When taking this class for a second or third time you can begin to work on pieces with different shapes and sizes. Glazing will be the focus of the final class. Wheel classes are offered in four week or six week sessions and are open for all ages.
Our hand building classes are all four week sessions and are geared towards ages 7 - 12 and focus on learning how to build pinch pot creatures. You will hand build for three weeks and learn all about glazing on the fourth week.
Our combo wheel & hand building classes are open for all ages and are offered in both four week and six week sessions. You get to learn multiple ways of working with clay in this class! Glazing will be the focus of the final class.
We also offer a one class "introduction to the wheel class". This two hour class allows you to get your hands on the clay and get a feel for wheel throwing. This is an experience class only and no pieces will be kept.
Special Notes
** While playing with clay your clothes WILL get clay on them. All students are encouraged to wear easily washable clothing & shoes and consider bringing a washable apron with you.
** Please avoid wearing perfumes or scents in the studio as many students have sensitivities to them.
** Please also avoid having creams or lotions on your hands as those can transfer to the clay and can become troublesome to the clay body's chemistry.
